Family Benefits

About the program

No family should have to sacrifice food on the table or ability to bring their child to a doctor. In Chester County, 1 in 8 people go to bed hungry and nearly 1 in 10 adults do not have health insurance. Children who are living without essentials like nutritious food or health care face a tough childhood and are at-risk for lifelong health challenges.

The Family Benefits Program helps eligible individuals and families with children provide the basics – food and health coverage – to access routine preventive care, specialty care, and offset the cost of groceries. This includes:

  • Expertise in eligibility for state subsidized health insurance (Medicaid, CHIP), food benefits (SNAP), and other public benefits programs (WIC, TANF, etc.), renewal applications, troubleshooting, and policy coverages.
  • Dedicated follow-up to ensure coverage is approved and continues without gaps.
  • Training to other social service agencies.
  • One-to-one enrollment assistance in multiple locations around Chester County and parts of Montgomery County (Pottstown and Norristown) and a staff team that is fluent in Spanish and English.

The Family Navigator Program (provided only to families referred by CYF)

In addition to health insurance and food benefits resources, MCHC expands access to other community resources for Chester County residents. This includes:

  • Employment training and opportunities
  • Housing, rent, and utility assistance
  • Transportation information and guidance
  • Domestic violence support
  • Diversion programs for families involved in the child welfare system or at-risk
